Tammie Jo Shults was the Captain of Southwest Flight 1380 LGA-Dallas on that fateful day in April in 2018. Somewhere past Philadelphia the left engine exploded and one passenger was killed. Black smoke filled the cockpit. Tammie Jo Shults, a former Naval aviator, gained control of the aircraft and brought it down safely at Philadelphia, saving 149 souls on that day. The crew was escorted into a white van immediately after landing and Tammie Jo’s heart rate and blood pressure were completely normal. Read her book aptly named, “Nerves of Steel.”
